Dr. Visits & Updates

• 3/15/07: Emily had her 5 yr checkup today. It went very well. She was so brave for her shots! She's now 43 lbs and 44" tall putting her in the 75%ile for both. She's so excited to be 5. She is in preschool this year again but now 3 days/week from 8-11:30. She loves every minute! She's so excited to start Kindergarten in the fall. Her teacher said that she will be more than ready and can already see her "wheels turning" in her head at story time as she tries to sound out words. She does this all the time at home and when we're around town. She does quite well with short words and amazes me at how she does on longer words at times! She seems to really want to read. She is also starting to really grasp basic, single digit addition and can count to 100.

She loves dancing and singing and is geared up to learn how to ride a bike without training wheels this summer. She really wants to learn bad! So daddy will have that as a project as soon as the roads aren't so mucky anymore! She's definitely a talkative little thing. And always coming up with funny things. Like the shoes I bought her recently that didn't fit (a touch too small) - when I asked her how they felt she pointed to her heel area and said "Well...they just feel kind of crazy back here or something..." She definitely keeps us laughing...

• 3/14/06: Hard to believe Emily is 4 already! She is getting so big...she loves school and is always asking to go there. She is now 37.75 lbs and 41.5" tall.

• 6/24/05: Well Emily's 3 ... almost 3 1/2. She's a sweetheart and a piece of work all rolled into one! :) She's still a jabberbox and loves to chatter all day about anything and everything. She's constantly leaving us laughing with her silly conversations. She really enjoys playing with Cassie and can make her laugh SO well! Her newest favorite thing to watch is the Wiggles movies we get at the library. She now knows the songs quite well and will dance with them and sing them. Its like her own little workout video! She got a big girl bike for her b-day in Feb and does ok on it. Still needs more practice but she does love riding it.

• 9/3/04: I can't believe how big miss Em is getting! She is talking so well and says many sentences and is a little parrot repeating what you say. She cracks me up daily with the things she says and does. She has so much energy and loves to jabber on and on. This summer she has loved going for bike rides with daddy in the bike trailer and to the park. She loves her new baby sister and is always asking "Mommy, I hold her please!" She loves to help out too and give Cassie big kisses. She's still taking a nap each day and probably will be for awhile - she really needs it! No luck on potty training yet - she's really not interested in actually going - she just likes to talk about it a lot! :)

• 3/4/04: Emily had her 2 yr checkup on the 2nd and she is doing great. She's grown 2 inches since her 18 month checkup and gained 4.5 lbs since then! We could tell she must be growing a lot lately as she's been eating a TON of food! She's now also learned a lot of basic shapes and we're still working on colors (she knows purple and blue pretty much all the time but calls everything else green initially!)

• 2/8/04: Last month Emily moved into her "big girl bed" ~ a twin sized bed with guard rails. She did really well with the transition. She only cried a bit the first few times and now does excellent. I think she likes all the room to move around! I've put some new pics of her room now that its more a "real" room in the "My Bedroom" link above.

She's doing so many cute things now ~ singing, kind of half skipping, jumping lots and always saying new phrases. Now if you say "yummy, yummy, yummy, yummy..." like the backpack in Dora she'll say "de-yee-ya-oh-so". She's really getting into kids programs more where she talks about them and the characters feelings and what they are doing. She's learning a ton from both Blue and Dora and can now count to 12 and is working on colors. Here's an audio clip of her singing Twinkle Twinkle. We sing it to her every night and I caught this over the monitor one day during her nap.

• 10/30/03: Emily is now 20 months old and is getting so big! She's really repeating a lot of words now and still talking non stop! She still really loves Blue's Clues and now if you say to her "we need our handy dandy...." she'll say "boatbook" (notebook).

She's constantly on the move and love to try to jump. Most of the times she never leaves the ground and the times she does, she normally falls down! But she loves trying.

She's just started getting her 2 yr molars in and has been quite a bear lately Poor thing - at least it goes in spurts. It looks like she has the bottom two almost all the way through. At least she's still sleeping well at night!

• 8/30/03: Emily had her 18 month checkup on the 28th. She's now 22 lbs (didn't weigh her digitally so its just 22 lbs) and 33" tall! She's so big . Everything is on track with her growth and health. She's doing well with her shoe inserts - they don't seem to bother her at all.

She's added more words to her vocabulary like car, up, no mine!, Elmo ("emmo"), shoes, socks, and she says "ba boo" when she wants to watch Blues Clues (like that noise he makes). Seems like she's saying a new word every day!

• 7/23/03: Been awhile since an update has been made! Emily is now "running" and walking very well. She's a master climber - on the couches, chairs, slides. No fear! She says so many words now like noo-nle (noodle), nana (for Nana Olson or a banana), papa (for Papa Olson), bye, hi, down, oh-wow, and more that I'm probably forgetting! She can sign "more", "please" and "help" as well. She will also give kisses!

Her next Dr. appt is in late Aug for her 18 month checkup. However she has gone in recently because we suspected she had flat feet (just like her momma and papa). Sure enough she does. So we are getting some non-custom orthotics (sp?) for her to wear that will help her develop an arch. After she gets those (in a few weeks) she'll wear them and check in with the PT in 9 months.

• 5/1/03: Emily started taking steps around 13 months and now at 14 months she is taking lots. She still prefers to crawl in generl but is now walking across a room and toddling around everywhere. She now says "What is that?" - comes out as "wha izz zat?" and she asks it ALL the time! She points to things and asks that or says it when she hears a new sound.

• 1 Year Appt:(3/3/03): Emily had her 12 month appointment this year. She is now 19 lb. 8 oz. and 29 3/4" long. So she hasn't grown much lengthwise and has put on some more weight. She's still a petite girl. :) She's doing well - just getting over a cold that all of us have had for over a week now.

She now says "all done" - though it comes out as either "all duh" or "all puh" :) Still cute! She occasionally says kitty as "ki". She loves saying hi to Daddy when he comes home from work: "hey D" or "hey da". She's also cruising along furniture well now and every once in awhile she will let go and stand on her own for a few seconds. She walks well when you hold her hands but hasn't attempted any steps on her own yet.

• More moving & sick girl :(1/17/03): Emily has now been crawling for over a month and finally pulled herself to a stand about 2 weeks ago. She hasn't cruised along the furniture yet but you can tell she's trying to figure it all out. She wave "hi" and "bye" really well now and will sometimes say "hi" - though many times it sounds southern like "haaa". Its funny cause she'll also often see Dave and say "hey dada".

She's now over 19 lbs and we just measured her a few days ago at 29 3/4". She's now 10 1/2 months old! She is doing well, but unfortunately had her first big cold about a week and a half ago and then 3 days ago got her first flu! :( The worst of it was really only about 12 hours worth but she's still kind of tired and crabby. She's getting better every day, though!

• Moving & Shaking (12/20/02): Emily has finally started crawling! For the longest time she could move around by just scooting on her butt. Then she finally realized how to get on all fours but never had much luck getting anywhere. Then she found out how to sit herself up from being on her tummy. She started crawling backwards a bit. Then one day, she took off forwards! Just like she'd been doing it forever :) So at 9 1/2 months this girl is finally crawling and getitng into EVERYTHING!

• 9 Months Checkup (11/26/02): Well she's getting long, but hasn't gained a whole lot! She is up to 17 lb. 12 oz. now. But she's now 29"! She grew an inch a month since 6 months! She is doing well over all. She's now starting to lunge forward for things and get on all fours, but she still hasn't crawled yet. She's attempted a few times but ends up on her tummy. Won't be long now!

She also now says "Yay!" She will do it on command ~ if you say "yay!" she'll repeat it back to you. She often claps while doing this.

• 8 Months Old! (11/4/02): Well Emily is now 8 months old! She's getting so big and even though she isn't crawling quite yet she's rolling, falling, grabbing and trying her best to scoot around! It shouldn't be long now. She has her two bottom teeth all the way in (they came in a few months ago) and her two top teeth will be poking through any day now (hopefully soon as it makes her cranky! :) ) But all in all she's doing great.

She loves to play and loves to be with us. She enjoys chewing on everything! She can now say "ma ma", "da da", "na na", and "ba ba"...plus some garbles and mumbles that you can't always decifer! She's doing great with solids and is trying more and more table foods every day. She's still working on being able to pick things up with her two fingers to eat. She is sitting up very well but occasionally loses her balance when she's twisting to see something.

She's sleeping very well most nights - in general going to bed by 7:30 at the latest and sleeping until 4:30-5:30 when she nurses and then back to sleep until anywhere from 6:30 - 8 am.

• 6 Month Checkup (8/26/02): Emily went in for her 6 month checkup on 8/26 and now weighs 15 lbs., 9 oz. She's 26" and doing well all around! She's getting so big! She's now sitting up for about 5-10 seconds at a time and when on her belly she's really trying to go somewhere - but doesn't know how! A few times she's pulled her legs up under her belly (like a frog) but not much else yet. She can spin in circle on both her tummy and back, though and rolls over well too.

She's almost done trying her veggies (peas are tomorrow!) and then we'll do fruits and some mixed dinners (yum!). She's loved everything she's tried so far.

• 8/12/02: Emily is now over 15 lbs - we'll find out for sure at her next Dr. appointment on 8/26. She's working hard at learning to sit up on her own but can only do it for a few seconds at a time right now. She can stand really well - she really only needs us holding her for balance - she can support her whole body weight very well.

She's now had rice, oatmeal and mixed cereals as well as carrots and sweet potatoes. We'll start squash soon and then the green veggies. So far she seems to like the veggies but makes some funny faces at the sweet potatoes. I'm sure she'll love the the fruits. She loves her cereal.

• 7/15/02: At her last Dr. visit she weighed in at 14 lbs. 4 oz. (7/8/02). We just started her on rice cereal and she loves it! We'll soon start other cereals along with fruits and veggies. She can now turn over from her belly to her back and hold her head up really well. She likes to sit up as well as stand, but is a ways from doing it on her own! We get lots of smiles and giggles too.

• 4 Month Checkup (6/26/02): She now weighs 13 lbs. 6 oz. and is 25" long! A long skinny baby :) She is growing great and doing wonderful. She can now turn over from her belly to her back and hold her head up really well. She likes to sit up but is a ways from doing it on her own! We get lots of smiles and giggles too.
