This is February’s cake for my husband’s work meeting. Putting together V-day and some chocolate – what a pairing! The cake itself is covered in a chocolate ganache and then a heart is made on top with some chocolate truffles. Yum!

Yesterday I worked on these cookies for my 2 daughters to take to class for their valentine’s day parties. My oldest daughter (almost 8 yrs old) has grown very particular about her cake and cookie designs
I find it both cute and humorous. She saw the bridal shower cookies I made last week and loved the designs. This past weekend I asked her what design/color she wanted for their v-day cookies. Her reply “I want the back to be light pink and I want a red heart in the middle and make it with the curl on the one side like that cookie. But I don’t want the crooked heart mom, I want a regular one [see previous post - I used a whimsical heart]. And do some of those little hearts up at the top too. That’s not too hard is it?”
She makes me smile – her list of requests yet she wants to be sure its not going to take me a million years.
Well much to my delight it didn’t – I baked and completely iced these during the day on Wed while she was at school….all 55 of them! They went quite fast really. Both she and her sister loved them which made my day. Hopefully their friends love them too tomorrow – but then again, what’s not to love about cookies!

Long time no post! We are in the middle of a kitchen remodel here so I haven’t been doing many cakes lately. Mostly because so much of my stuff is packed or hard to find. I do have great work area though thanks to a temporary kitchen setup. Here are some cookies I did that were for a bridal shower. 70 cookies total… This was my first time playing with the tiered cake cookie cutter despite having it since last summer. So much fun! I can’t wait to do more designs with it.

Here is a sheet cake and 65 cupcakes I made for a grand opening of Marian’s new Appleton location. The cupcake colors represent the schools logo color of royal blue and the team color of burgundy. The seal on the cake is made from gumpaste to replicate the seal from their website (see below). I then hand drew on the lettering and flame/torch design. Letters on cake are fondant cut outs and all the flowers on the cupcakes are fondant cut outs.
This is the seal that I replicated from

Closeup of some of the cupcakes

And here are the remaining 4 dozen!

My youngest daughter is celebrating her 5th birthday tomorrow! She loves purple and she loves horses and she loves littlest pet shop toys! We’ll be having a small party with family in a week but we wanted a little cake to celebrate her actual birthday. This is a buttercream iced cake with fondant flowers and pet shop cut out.

This cake was a labor of love for my mom and my little sister, Kelsey. My mom graduated in May with her Master’s degree and my sister graduated from high school in June. So proud of both of them!
Their party was this weekend and I had seen a cake done in this structure last year some time. I loved how fun it looked so I sweet talked my older sister into helping me and we planned out the design last week. Then spent over 4 hrs decorating it together. The top two tiers on this cake are fake cake because they didn’t need quite that much cake for the party – however this type of cake can be done with all real cake. Its all a matter of physics people
All of the tiers are 8″ squares, covered in fondant.
They loved the end result so that made us happy as can be! Hope you enjoy it too…

Originally this cake (which is for my husband’s work for July birthdays) was supposed to incorporate the gumpaste hibiscus (see previous post). However it wasn’t until I started assembling the cake I realized that they were WAY too big and I do mean WAY too big. Kind of shot my plans for the whole thing (and ruined the idea that this cake would go together quickly!). So back to square one…cake already fondant covered and stacked…and I had to find a new game plan. I wanted it tropical so I stuck with the hibiscus idea – this is what resulted. I’m pretty pleased with the end result considering I was still tired from the previous day and I spent a good part of the day putzing trying to figure out how to do this. So here it is…

I recently got a new veining set for making hibiscus flowers from gumpaste. I’m so excited about these and the veiner worked so well. Really makes it turn out great. Not that they still aren’t time consuming. Each of these flowers probably took a good 10-15 minutes as each part of it is hand made – even the tiny dots and pistol. I made 4 total flowers and 8 centers – I’ll get to finishing those some other time
But here is my first try at a real hibiscus…

Howdy Y’all
Here’s a little cowboy cake I made up for a friend. Based on some ADORABLE party ware she found online. I’ve included a pic of the plate below to show what I based it off of. The cake is iced in buttercream and the “bandanna” and hat are cut out of fondant. The cake board itself is fondant covered and decorated with brown cow spots to match the cowboy’s attire. The brown didn’t show quite right in color in my photos.
Party plate design…

Its mid June … so time for the next work birthday cake for my hubby… I confess I spaced out that it was THIS week until he reminded me on Tue! Oooops! But I planned out the idea (based on another cake I had seen and loved) in an hour and started baking the next day. The actual decorating flew by faster than I thought it would. And the result is as fun as I hoped!
This 3 tier cake is made up of 4″, 6″ & 8″ cakes, fondant covered and the accents out the top are gumpaste.

Its that time of year…so many great accomplishments. Congrats to all the graduates out there. Today’s cake is a high school graduate who also is an avid hockey player. School colors were maroon/white and the hockey colors blue/white. This cake is a 10″ – 12″ tiered cake. The grad cap on top is gumpaste (and edible). Everything is edible
Well except the support dowels

This past week my husband and I celebrated our bdays (our bdays are 2 days apart). So I asked him what kind of cake he wanted and told him it didn’t have to be all decorated but could be just fancy in flavor
So he picked chocolate cake with cherry pie filling. I then added on the chocolate ganache for my part of it. Chocolate ganache is TO DIE FOR!
Basically just chocolate and heavy whipping cream. How can that be bad? I also dipped a few marachino cherries for on top.
I can’t wait to dig into this tonight!
