This was a bridal shower cake done in buttercream.  Cakes are 10″ & 12″.  The color was a pool blue color with dark brown scrolling and a monogram on front.  Included below is the pic of the dress I color matched off of.

Bridal Shower Replica

Friday, September 17th, 2010

This bridal shower cake was based off of another cake of mine (green and pink).  This time I did it in a merlot and gold color scheme to match the wedding colors.  All fondant.

Wedding!

Monday, June 28th, 2010

I had the honor of making my mom’s wedding cake in early June.  She requested the floating tiers and said she was using pink but otherwise let me do as I wished.  So I ended up getting myself some new cutters to learn peonies and added in the hydrangeas and roses I already knew.  The rest of the cake is buttercream.  The hydrangea blossoms on the side are gumpaste like the top flowers.  These tiers were 8″, 10″ and 12″.

Pink & Green

Another cake for my husband’s work… 6″, 8″ and a single layer 10″.  Fondant covered with fondant flowers.

1st Communion

Two tier cake (6″ – 8″) for a little girl celebrating her 1st Communion.  Gumpaste cross and roses. Buttercream icing with fondant accents.

Birds and Flowers Wedding Cake

Three tier 6-8-10″ square cakes.  Buttercream iced with accents of fondant flowers.  Birds are gum paste.

Bridal Shower Cookies

Saturday, February 6th, 2010

Long time no post!  We are in the middle of a kitchen remodel here so I haven’t been doing many cakes lately.  Mostly because so much of my stuff is packed or hard to find.  I do have great work area though thanks to a temporary kitchen setup.  Here are some cookies I did that were for a bridal shower. 70 cookies total… This was my first time playing with the tiered cake cookie cutter despite having it since last summer.  So much fun!  I can’t wait to do more designs with it.

A bit of fall…early :)

Sunday, September 20th, 2009

This cake was a fall themed one – not quite fall yet but I still love it.  The colors are so pretty.  All of the flowers are gumpaste, cake is buttercream iced.

Luau Part 2

Sunday, August 9th, 2009

Here’s the 2nd installment of luau cakes :)   This time square and waterfall!  Enjoy…

Luau Part 1

Thursday, August 6th, 2009

Here’s the first of 3 upcoming luau cakes.  This first is a hula girl inspired cake…grass skirt and a lei. :)   All fondant covered.  The lei flowers are gumpaste.

Hydrangeas

Friday, July 10th, 2009

This bridal shower cake called for hydrangeas – and with a new toy I ordered I was able to create some with gumpaste.  Cake is fondant covered.

I love teal

Thursday, May 7th, 2009

For some reason this color just makes me smile.  Maybe its the fresh cleanness of its color or how vibrant it is.  But I love it.  This cake has no purpose.  In fact it will likely just end up in the garbage (please don’t *gasp* yet).  The top is actually a fake cake (styrofoam) that I covered for my students in class on Tuesday.  Since no cake goes undecorated I was pondering what to do with it.  I decided to make use of some other bad cake and make it a big one.  The base of this cake is real cake – 10″ of overcooked, kind of burnt cake ickyness!  I had a little timer incident last week which resulted in burning 4 cakes :(   Bummer…but of course they won’t go wasted. ;-)   Meaning they WILL get decorated!

So I made up more teal fondant and here you have it.  Also as part of my goal in doing the cake I wanted to use up some extra icing in my fridge.  I had about 10-12 different tupperwares full of icing in there…all different colors.  It was starting to make me crazy.  So I pulled some out and just slapped them on this cake and iced.  I used yellow green and blue.  The effect was quite neat and you can see a pic of the base iced cake below the finished cake pics in this post.  I want to try this with a full coat of icing on a cake sometime.

Anyway…enough talk – here’s the cake :)

Check out that marbling…this is what happens when you just throw 3 colors of icing on the cake and smooth it out. You can see my teal fondant anxiously awaiting. Almost matches my lovely rolling pin (I LOVE MY ROLLING PIN!!!!) in the background :)

Spring Flowers

Wednesday, April 15th, 2009

If this doesn’t say spring I don’t know what does!  This cake is a shameless knockoff of a cake done by Whimsical Bakehouse.  They rock…seriously.  I hope I did it justice…If you go to their site you can see their version on the gallery page…its the 7th pic I think.  This cake is all buttercream icing.  And other than piping all the lilacs it went pretty fast.  Happy Spring! :)

Dots & Bows

Wednesday, February 18th, 2009

Well here is February’s birthday cake.  It didn’t need to be this big but I wanted to do this style.  My plan was just two tiers (the bottom two) but I had extra batter so I made a 4″ and threw that on too.  It completes the look I think :)   This cake was inspired by one I ran across online.  Had some things I had wanted to try and I loved the look.  Plus I had short notice to plan it so I couldn’t do anything to labor intensive.  I did this one fondant for my ease ;-) and the bow is fondant as well.

Anniversary Cake

Monday, December 15th, 2008

This cake was made as a replica of a wedding cake for a couple’s 40th Anniversary!  How exciting! :)   I was given a pic to go off of and did the best I could based on what I could make out on the pic.  So take a trip back to the late 60′s and check out this cake :)

Purple and Pearls

Wednesday, August 6th, 2008

This cake was inspired by one in the book called Party Cakes.  I loved the look of the pearls.  I iced this one for my course 1 class and the purple turned out…well a little more vibrant than I orginally planned :)   But I went with it and piped on some pearls and added some roses.  It is all buttercream icing. The first picture most accurately reflects the hue of the icing.

Pink swags

Thursday, June 26th, 2008

I had this cake dummy (styrofoam) covered in fondant from the last class I taught.  Decided to try something new…not sure how I like it but it is what it is :D   The swags are dusted with pearl dust but doesn’t show up a ton in the pic.

Lisa’s Wedding Cake

Sunday, June 8th, 2008

Here is my first wedding cake ~ made for my cousin, Lisa.  Her wedding color was red and her bouquets had lilies, dahlias, zinnias and similar flowers.  The flower cut outs on the cake are lilies.  Its hard to see the detail – I cropped one out below and you can see some of the detail that was on the flower (actual stamens show and such).  The cakes sizes are 6″/8″/10″/12″/14″.  Fed about 170 and weighed a ton :)   We put it together on site but then the catering people ended up having to move the table TWICE with this cake on it that was basically just stacked (you don’t generally do a center support dowel when you assemble on site as its supposed to stay put ;-)   But it survived a move across the outside patio then another move into the building, up an elevator and into the inside banquet hall when the determined it was going to rain (and RAIN it did!)

Scarlet & Silver

Thursday, May 29th, 2008

This was a cake for a bridal shower where the wedding colors were scarlet and silver.  Its a basic buttercream covered cake with ribbon around it and artificial flowers in between and on top.  The real color of this is a bit of a deeper red than the pic came out.

Mini roses cake

Sunday, March 30th, 2008

I had an extra hunk of cake leftover from my calculator cake (below) so I decided to decorate it for fun.  This cake is only about 4.5″x4.5″ and about 2″ tall.  Fondant covered and ribbon around the base.  These are some gumpaste roses I made previously.

Misc Cookies

Tuesday, December 4th, 2007

I was playing around and made these today…There is some things I would do different with the cake cookies but I didn’t really “plan” anything before I went wild with the frosting :)

Flower Embroidery

Thursday, October 18th, 2007

This is a cake done for the parents of the bride & groom at a wedding tomorrow.  I was given a photo to go off of for what they were looking for and I’m happy with the results.  Three different views of it…

Cookies!

Thursday, July 19th, 2007

Well this is my first attempt at cookies since really learning how to do them. Turn out better when you do the right thing LOL :D

Scrolls…

Sunday, July 1st, 2007

I’ve been wanting to do a cake with these colors for awhile…

Aly’s cake…

Saturday, June 16th, 2007

This cake was done for my cousin Alyson for her bridal shower. My sister volunteered me for the job (which I was glad to accept!) and we didn’t let them know what we were planning. Its based off her wedding colors and her “modern” trend ~ she likes funky stuff like this. :) The cake itself is top: white cake, white buttercream icing and strawberry jam filing….middle: yellow cake, coffee buttercream icing, mocha-chocolate pudding filling…bottom: chocolate cake, chocolate ganache iced and filled. All covered in fondant. Topper is calla lilies made from fondant. Many thanks to my big sis who both encouraged me and gave me a hand with the decor placement on this cake.

My first 2 Tier cake…

Monday, May 21st, 2007

I had a little bit of issues with the fondant but got the rest pretty good. Kind of just kept adding stuff until it looked “done” :) The cake is covered in fondant and decorated with buttercream. The flowers are royal icing petunias.

Pansy Heart Cake

This cake I made for Mother’s Day. Two layer 8″ heart cake with strawberry jam filling & some of my royal icing pansies I had left over :)
