This is February’s cake for my husband’s work meeting.  Putting together V-day and some chocolate – what a pairing! The cake itself is covered in a chocolate ganache and then a heart is made on top with some chocolate truffles. Yum!

Welcome to my cake blog ~ these are my cake creations. I love cake decorating. I have been doing it in general since my daughter's first birthday in 2003 but in Feb of 2007 I began taking Wilton courses to learn technique. The rest is history :) Feel free to browse each page or by categories (on the right). If you have any questions, please feel free to email me: cakes@halderman.net

Yesterday I worked on these cookies for my 2 daughters to take to class for their valentine’s day parties. My oldest daughter (almost 8 yrs old) has grown very particular about her cake and cookie designs
I find it both cute and humorous. She saw the bridal shower cookies I made last week and loved the designs. This past weekend I asked her what design/color she wanted for their v-day cookies.  Her reply “I want the back to be light pink and I want a red heart in the middle and make it with the curl on the one side like that cookie. But I don’t want the crooked heart mom, I want a regular one [see previous post - I used a whimsical heart]. And do some of those little hearts up at the top too. That’s not too hard is it?”
She makes me smile – her list of requests yet she wants to be sure its not going to take me a million years.
Well much to my delight it didn’t – I baked and completely iced these during the day on Wed while she was at school….all 55 of them! They went quite fast really. Both she and her sister loved them which made my day. Hopefully their friends love them too tomorrow – but then again, what’s not to love about cookies!

Here is the Nov cake for DH’s work.  This is a 10″ round cake with chocolate buttercream and a 6″ round, 3 layer cake on top, iced in chocolate buttercream and fondant strips on the outside to make a “basket”. All of the leaves, apples and acorns are fondant. Happy Fall!

These cookies (4 dozen of them total) are for my daughter’s to take to their class parties tomorrow.

This cake was for my husband’s work for October birthdays. Buttercream icing, gumpaste accents and a fondant covered ghost cake on top.

This cake was for the Sept birthdays at my husband’s work. The brown side parts are made of a chocolate candy clay. All the rest is buttercream icing.

These cake and cupcakes were done for a friend’s daughter who celebrates her birthday this weekend. The egg is fondant covered with a gum paste bow and the cupcakes have buttercream icing with gum paste eggs.

Had some extra cupcakes to play with…all of the items are made from gumpaste. I think my favorites are the daffodils. I do love daffodils
This is March’s birthday cake for my husband’s work. Two days after St. Patrick’s Day so we did a themed cake. The pot is cake, covered in fondant, base is cake with icing.  The only things non edible are the coins ~ just didn’t have time to make something. But its all good. The rainbow is gumpaste. The base cake is 10″ square to give some size reference…

Valentine’s day is just around the corner ~ and I was on duty to make sweet treats for both the girls’ classes. I decided to keep it easy on myself and make them all the same and not too detailed. I did, after all, end up decorating 4 dozen cupcakes!
It didn’t take that long at all either. Chocolate cupcakes by the request of my chocolate loving girls…the icing is piped out half pink/half white. Dark pink cake sparkles on top and then I piped out chocolate pink and red hearts to put in top. Click an image to enlarge…

Tonight is my 4 yr old daughter’s Christmas program for school. I signed up to bring a sweet treat of course
I love working with the blues of winter and snowflakes. So here are some blue iced cupcakes with some Wilton crystal sprinkles for “snow” and royal icing snowflakes that I piped. Boy were they fragile! I’m glad I made extra. But the delicate look of them is just what I wanted… Click the image to see a larger view.

Christmas cookie time!
Here’s my latest batch… I’ve made them clickable to enlarge to a bigger pic.

These almost got away…I ALMOST didn’t decorate them but then I couldn’t let that happen! So here they are all fall’d up!
Here is another creation for my hubby’s work ~ turkey cake! Made up of cake and 4 waffle ice cream cones
“Stuffing” is cut up cake – lettuce is … well real lettuce
This cake went really fast and turned out better than I had thought it might LOL

I was going to title this post “the great pumpkin” ~ referencing the Charlie Brown movie ~ but then I decided that sounded kind of conceited LOL Though I am happy with the outcome and the fact that it went together very quickly. This festive pumpkin was made with 2 bundt cakes and then covered in fondant. The leaves/stem/vines are all fondant too. I also added some petal dust to accent the pumpkin.

Here’s my stack of gifts ~ a 10″ square and 6″ round + 3 cake ornaments. The bow, all the ornaments and the gold dots are all shimmery/sparkly but it doesn’t show as much in the pic. Bow is made of sugar paste – my first one!

I made this cake for a family Christmas as a birthday cake for Jesus. The building is made of chocolate sugar cookie with icing on top. Figures are fondant. Cake has “For Unto Us A Child Is Born” written around it.

I made this delicious peanut butter pie for Thanksgiving tomorrow. But it was too plain so I grabbed my chocolate melts out and created a swirled design and some turkeys

Cake for memorial day/me and hubby’s bday…

And this is before putting the star explosion in
