A friend loved the cake at the top of the blog (brown/green one with the calla lilies) but wanted it in colors to match their party ware.  So this is what we did :)

Here is the March cake for hubby’s work ~ a little gift for them :)

February 26th, 2010

My daughter is at it again – designing her own cupcakes to take to school today.  She picked it all out… and even helped me do them.

February 20th, 2010

My daughter turns 8 next Friday – hard to believe another year has come and gone.  It seems like I was just posting her birthday cake when she turned 7!  This year she wanted a Barbie girl theme.  I guess more “big girl” barbie?  Anyway, we had family over one day and her friends over the next day so…of course 2 cakes. :)   Here’s what she designed…she she designed them.  Right down to every detail…every dot color, every shape placement and the request of the 8 on top.  She even dipped into my colored pencil stash to help me sketch it.  It was so fun to see her bring her ideas to life on paper for me to create.  A budding cake designer!

All buttercream cake except for zebra accents and bottom border which is fondant.  Flowers are gumpaste.

September 20th, 2009

This cake was for the Sept birthdays at my husband’s work.  The brown side parts are made of a chocolate candy clay.  All the rest is buttercream icing.

August 27th, 2009

Here’s another big cupcake for you all to enjoy…this time in green and brown.  The “liner” on the cupcake is a chocolate shell – yum!  The base cake is a 10″ round…this time chocolate cake with chocolate ganache ;-)   Boy were Dave’s co workers lucky this month! :)

August 21st, 2009

This was a birthday cake for 2 wonderful little girls turning 7 who love American Girl.  The standup/cutout in the middle is gumpaste and based on the old American Girl logo (see image below cake).  Cupcakes and stars on the cake were in colors to match the different girls.

Here’s the 2nd installment of luau cakes :)   This time square and waterfall!  Enjoy…

August 8th, 2009

This cake is for my youngest daughter – her cake to celebrate with family.  I wasn’t sure how this would turn out but overall I’m pretty happy with it – and she loved it. :) Its fondant covered…chocolate cake with chocolate ganache and chocolate fondant. She’s in heaven!

August 8th, 2009

This was a birthday cake for my dad – his request of a harley jumping out of the cake with flames :)   So here you have it!  The harley, flames, letters and skulls are out of gumpate then painted after they dry.

August 6th, 2009

Here’s the first of 3 upcoming luau cakes.  This first is a hula girl inspired cake…grass skirt and a lei. :)   All fondant covered.  The lei flowers are gumpaste.

July 31st, 2009

My youngest daughter is celebrating her 5th birthday tomorrow!  She loves purple and she loves horses and she loves littlest pet shop toys!  We’ll be having a small party with family in a week but we wanted a little cake to celebrate her actual birthday.  This is a buttercream iced cake with fondant flowers and pet shop cut out.

July 16th, 2009

Originally this cake (which is for my husband’s work for July birthdays) was supposed to incorporate the gumpaste hibiscus (see previous post).  However it wasn’t until I started assembling the cake I realized that they were WAY too big and I do mean WAY too big.  Kind of shot my plans for the whole thing (and ruined the idea that this cake would go together quickly!).  So back to square one…cake already fondant covered and stacked…and I had to find a new game plan.  I wanted it tropical so I stuck with the hibiscus idea – this is what resulted.  I’m pretty pleased with the end result considering I was still tired from the previous day and I spent a good part of the day putzing trying to figure out how to do this.  So here it is…

June 22nd, 2009

Howdy Y’all :)   Here’s a little cowboy cake I made up for a friend.  Based on some ADORABLE party ware she found online. I’ve included a pic of the plate below to show what I based it off of.  The cake is iced in buttercream and the “bandanna” and hat are cut out of fondant.  The cake board itself is fondant covered and decorated with brown cow spots to match the cowboy’s attire.  The brown didn’t show quite right in color in my photos.

Party plate design…

Its mid June … so time for the next work birthday cake for my hubby…  I confess I spaced out that it was THIS week until he reminded me on Tue!  Oooops!  But I planned out the idea (based on another cake I had seen and loved) in an hour and started baking the next day.  The actual decorating flew by faster than I thought it would.  And the result is as fun as I hoped! :)   This 3 tier cake is made up of 4″, 6″ & 8″ cakes, fondant covered and the accents out the top are gumpaste.

May 27th, 2009

This past week my husband and I celebrated our bdays (our bdays are 2 days apart).  So I asked him what kind of cake he wanted and told him it didn’t have to be all decorated but could be just fancy in flavor :)   So he picked chocolate cake with cherry pie filling.  I then added on the chocolate ganache for my part of it.  Chocolate ganache is TO DIE FOR! :)   Basically just chocolate and heavy whipping cream.  How can that be bad?  I also dipped a few marachino cherries for on top.

I can’t wait to dig into this tonight! :)

May 21st, 2009

This was my first attempt at a chocolate wrapped cake.   This cake was for the May bday party at my husband’s work.  It’s a 10″ cake with a chocolate wrap (with a few issues LOL) and chocolate covered strawberries on top! (and chocolate icing ;-)   )  YUM!

May 3rd, 2009

Here again is an S&S creation made by my sister and I.  This cake is a 6″-8″-10″ that we made for her church gathering.  Fondant covered with fondant flowers.

April 29th, 2009

I have a LOT of frosting in my fridge right now to use up.  And also a bunch of cake in my freezer as well :)   But this cake (well the flower shaped one) was in my fridge from a recent cake I made…extra batter :)   The round tier on this one is fake cake (styrofoam).  The gumpaste flowers I had previously made up.  So I mixed up some green icing and iced this up.  Didn’t take even an hour I think.  My eldest daughter said what I was thinking ” home come there are no roses on the bottom?”  And to answer this question – because I didn’t have any more :)   I only had this many and I wasn’t up for making more :)   But I did add pink dots in the grass to bring out the pinks more.

April 24th, 2009

I do confess – I love Star Wars.  Well mostly the original 3.  I *heart* Han Solo ;-)   So making this was a fun thing for me despite having 2 girls and doing lots of girly pink stuff most of the time.  The birthday boy this is for loves Star Wars as well.  This cake is a 9×13 covered in buttercream icing.  The storm trooper and wording (in Star Wars font) are done in color flow.

If this doesn’t say spring I don’t know what does!  This cake is a shameless knockoff of a cake done by Whimsical Bakehouse.  They rock…seriously.  I hope I did it justice…If you go to their site you can see their version on the gallery page…its the 7th pic I think.  This cake is all buttercream icing.  And other than piping all the lilacs it went pretty fast.  Happy Spring! :)

This cake was made to celebrate the birthday of my mom’s coworker.  He likes beer from what I’m told :)   So here is a big mug of … cake :)   And no – it doesn’t taste like beer ;-)   This cake is about 6″ in diameter and 8-9″ tall with a gumpaste handle.  Cheers!

April 11th, 2009

These cake and cupcakes were done for a friend’s daughter who celebrates her birthday this weekend.  The egg is fondant covered with a gum paste bow and the cupcakes have buttercream icing with gum paste eggs.

My mom commissioned me to make this cake for her boyfriend, George’s, birthday.  The cake itself is a 10″ carrot cake with cream cheese frosting. All icing except the figure – and the ball which is a fondant ball on a wire. My sister Shelly came over to help me out and helped me sculpt the fondant “George” for on top :)   She did the wacky and wild pants…woo hoo :)   I made the head which had us cracking up.  We have too much fun doing this.  We asked all of our kids who it looked like and they all told us “George!” so we must have done good.  He loves golfing…so that’s where the design came from.  Below is a pic of him so you can do your own comparison.  Happy Birthday, George!

March 28th, 2009

My little sister turned 18 last week and we celebrated her birthday party this weekend!  She is all about fashion, design and shopping (and her cell phone ;-)   ).  This cake was all about her.  My older sister and I designed and created this together – another fine S&S creation ;-)   Some details…

The purse and the shopping bag are cake, covered in fondant.  The tissue in the gift bag is gumpaste.  The handles on the purse are fondant as are all the decor – except the piping…which Shelly painstakingly piped for THREE hours!  She has a cramped hand now :)   But she did a great job!  Meanwhile I put together the gift bag and dress model.  The model is all fondant that I sculpted and then made a fondant dress for.  It is embellished with some piping.  We finished off the “Louis Vuitton” handbag with both tan and gold painted embellishments (including a zipper pull that Shelly embossed with a LV logo.  Its all about the details, folks :)   The shoe and cell phone I made a few days earlier from gumpaste.  They are painted with luster dust to shimmer.

In the end it took us just about all day to do this cake….lots of putzy time (and kids interrupting) went into this!  But well worth it. :)

Ballroom dancing anyone?  This is a 11×15 cake, all icing with some ballroom dancing design!  Simple and classy…black and white.

March 15th, 2009

Here’s another variation – similar to one I made recently but with some awesome lime green added in! This is a great big cupcake cake.

March 1st, 2009

The last of the guitars (for now…). :)   Again the guitars were made with royal icing piped out.  Fondant covered and piped on scroll work around the guitars on the base.  Real ribbon used.
