And this year I got to make one for the daughter of a friend who graduated high school this spring.  Their request was turquoise and zebra – and “can it be sparkly”?  So I got myself an airbrush, played around and ended up spraying the bottom tier a pearly color.  Its not as easy to tell in the pic but boy in the sun it sparkled!

Back in June of 2007 I was asked to make a bridal shower cake for my wonderful cousin, Aly.  This cake pic has had a home at the top of the blog since day 1 and I get SO many comments on that cake.  Well now 3 yrs later we are celebrating the soon to be born baby to this wonderful couple! :)   So of course I was excited to do the baby shower cake!  I went off of the party ware they had purchased ~ see a pic below to compare :)   Cake is all buttercream except the birds and nest, which are gumpaste.

For June birthday’s at my husband’s work I created a variety of flavored cupcakes.  On the menu were:

* Vanilla Cupcakes with Vanilla Frosting and Chocolate-Marshmallow Filling
* Lime Cupcakes with Coconut frosting and toasted coconut
* Chocolate Cupcakes dipped in Chocolate Ganache and topped with Mint Frosting and a chocolate leaf

I had the honor of making my mom’s wedding cake in early June.  She requested the floating tiers and said she was using pink but otherwise let me do as I wished.  So I ended up getting myself some new cutters to learn peonies and added in the hydrangeas and roses I already knew.  The rest of the cake is buttercream.  The hydrangea blossoms on the side are gumpaste like the top flowers.  These tiers were 8″, 10″ and 12″.

A friend loved the cake at the top of the blog (brown/green one with the calla lilies) but wanted it in colors to match their party ware.  So this is what we did :)

These cupcakes were for my daughter for her school birthday.  She wanted chocolate frosting and flowers on them like she’d seen me do in the past.

My daughter is at it again – designing her own cupcakes to take to school today.  She picked it all out… and even helped me do them.

February 20th, 2010

My daughter turns 8 next Friday – hard to believe another year has come and gone.  It seems like I was just posting her birthday cake when she turned 7!  This year she wanted a Barbie girl theme.  I guess more “big girl” barbie?  Anyway, we had family over one day and her friends over the next day so…of course 2 cakes. :)   Here’s what she designed…she she designed them.  Right down to every detail…every dot color, every shape placement and the request of the 8 on top.  She even dipped into my colored pencil stash to help me sketch it.  It was so fun to see her bring her ideas to life on paper for me to create.  A budding cake designer!

This is February’s  cake for my husband’s work meeting.   Putting together V-day and some chocolate – what a pairing!  The cake itself is covered in a chocolate ganache and then a heart is made on top with some chocolate truffles.  Yum!

Yesterday I worked on these cookies for my 2 daughters to take to class for their valentine’s day parties.  My oldest daughter (almost 8 yrs old) has grown very particular about her cake and cookie designs :)   I find it both cute and humorous.  She saw the bridal shower cookies I made last week and loved the designs.  This past weekend I asked her what design/color she wanted for their v-day cookies.   Her reply “I want the back to be light pink and I want a red heart in the middle and make it with the curl on the one side like that cookie.  But I don’t want the crooked heart mom, I want a regular one [see previous post - I used a whimsical heart].  And do some of those little hearts up at the top too.  That’s not too hard is it?” :)   She makes me smile – her list of requests yet she wants to be sure its not going to take me a million years.

Well much to my delight it didn’t – I baked and completely iced these during the day on Wed while she was at school….all 55 of them!  They went quite fast really.  Both she and her sister loved them which made my day.  Hopefully their friends love them too tomorrow – but then again, what’s not to love about cookies!

February 6th, 2010

Long time no post!  We are in the middle of a kitchen remodel here so I haven’t been doing many cakes lately.  Mostly because so much of my stuff is packed or hard to find.  I do have great work area though thanks to a temporary kitchen setup.  Here are some cookies I did that were for a bridal shower. 70 cookies total… This was my first time playing with the tiered cake cookie cutter despite having it since last summer.  So much fun!  I can’t wait to do more designs with it.

Here is the Nov cake for DH’s work.   This is a 10″ round cake with chocolate buttercream and a 6″ round, 3 layer cake on top, iced in chocolate buttercream and fondant strips on the outside to make a “basket”.  All of the leaves, apples and acorns are fondant.  Happy Fall!

I had some extra cupcakes and some extra frosting…it was a sign I think that I needed to make these up for us :)   These are coconut cupcakes with a coconut pudding filling and chocolate buttercream icing.  And little royal icing flowers of course :)   Can’t wait until my girls see these later today…boy are they going to be excited for snack time tonight!

Here’s another big cupcake for you all to enjoy…this time in green and brown.  The “liner” on the cupcake is a chocolate shell – yum!  The base cake is a 10″ round…this time chocolate cake with chocolate ganache ;-)   Boy were Dave’s co workers lucky this month! :)

August 21st, 2009

This was a birthday cake for 2 wonderful little girls turning 7 who love American Girl.  The standup/cutout in the middle is gumpaste and based on the old American Girl logo (see image below cake).  Cupcakes and stars on the cake were in colors to match the different girls.

Here is a sheet cake and 65 cupcakes I made for a grand opening of Marian’s new Appleton location.  The cupcake colors represent the schools logo color of royal blue and the team color of burgundy.   The seal on the cake is made from gumpaste to replicate the seal from their website (see below).  I then hand drew on the lettering and flame/torch design.  Letters on cake are fondant cut outs and all the flowers on the cupcakes are fondant cut outs.

This is the seal that I replicated from

And here are the remaining 4 dozen!
